Old Boys Day Delivers a Century of Memories
The final home game of the 2026 New England Rugby season delivered everything that makes rugby special at Tamworth Rugby Park: old friends reconnecting, club legends being honoured, a huge crowd in attendance and, for our First Grade team, a record-breaking performance that will be talked about for many years to come.
Our 2026 Old Boys Day proved a tremendous success, with more than 60 past players, officials and supporters attending the pre-match luncheon, while many more gathered around the ground throughout the afternoon. Stories flowed freely, memories were shared and the rich history of the Tamworth Rugby Union Sporting Club was celebrated in fitting fashion.
The biggest moment away from the scoreboard came before kick-off with the official opening of the Ken Noble Members Veranda. In front of a large crowd, Club President Chris Shaw invited Life Member Ken Noble onto the field to acknowledge his decades of contribution to the club. As Patron of the Tamworth Rugby Union Sporting Club, Ken's tireless work, encouragement and unwavering support of generations of Magpies was recognised in a heartfelt ceremony warmly received by everyone in attendance.
First Grade
The First Grade Magpies then produced one of the most dominant displays in club history, defeating Robb College 102-26.
The Magpies crossed for an incredible 17 tries in a free-flowing attacking performance that had the home crowd on its feet throughout the afternoon. B Humphries led the charge with four tries, while W Harrison bagged a hat-trick and O. Qamasea, C. Fisher and K. McLean each scored doubles. B. Clout, D. Brissett and R. Box also got their names on the scoresheet.
Brissett's boot was equally influential, slotting seven conversions, while Fisher and Qamasea added two conversions each.
The magnitude of the achievement wasn't lost on those who have been around the club for decades. Club stalwart Buck Wisman summed up the historic result perfectly:
"This is the first time I have ever seen a Tamworth side score a hundred points."
It was a performance built on relentless support play, clinical finishing and an attitude that reflects the confidence and momentum we have built heading into the Semi Final Series.

Women's 10s
The Tamworth Magpies Women's 10s battled bravely against a red-hot Robb College Women's 10s outfit, going down 76-5.
Despite the scoreline, the Magpies showed tremendous determination and never stopped competing across four hard-fought quarters. G. Steenson crossed for Tamworth's lone try and the home side continued to fight right until the final whistle.
Our Women's 10s squad has demonstrated tremendous resilience and growth throughout the season, gaining valuable experience as the squad continues to build for the future.
A Day to Remember
As the sun set on the final home game of the season, there was a sense that the day was about far more than rugby.
Old Boys Day showcased everything that makes the Tamworth Rugby Union Sporting Club special: respect for those who built the club, pride in the present and excitement for the future.
The opening of the Ken Noble Members Veranda, the record-breaking century from First Grade, the determination of the Women's 10s and the gathering of so many past and present Magpies combined to create another memorable chapter in the club's proud history.
For those lucky enough to be there, Old Boys Day 2026 will be remembered as a celebration of community, tradition, and the enduring black-and-white spirit of the Tamworth Magpies.

Final Round
Next week sees the final round of the home-and-away season, with our Second Grade and Women's 10s sides travelling to Glen Innes.
